CES DEMOS

Background:

As part of an ongoing effort to prototype next-generation systems and test them in the marketplace, many systems are tried and showcased in various forums. A few promising ideas are developed and incorporated into test vehicles to be showcased at events such as the popular CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas.

One of these prototypes, developed by Persis, was the first on-board Multi-Point Skype Conferencing, which was also highlighted by Tony Bates, Skype CEO, during his own conference call in Las Vegas at the same event. See http://blogs.skype.com/2011/01/06/skype-ceo-press-conference/.

The use cases developed and presented at this event were warmly received by the public and many were further developed for production systems.

Challenges:

• Never-before developed prototype
• Infrastructure not available at the company, hence the first use of the cloud
• Short timeframe to develop the complete package, including in-vehicle systems

How the challenges were overcome:

A great team of expert developers was brought on board, along with a very technical Scrum master who was able to articulate technical solutions to the client and secure their support. By taking ownership of many of the components, Persis was able to develop an integrated system quickly and iterate its functionality and "look and feel" until the client was satisfied with the results and was able to ship the test vehicle to the CES show.

Results:

Persis received very high marks for the prototypes from our customer and was awarded more prototypes in the following months.
