The first mobile phones emerge
The first mobile phone call was made in 1946. A team including Alton Dickieson and D. Mitchell from Bell Labs and future AT&T CEO H.I. Romne had worked for more than ten years for the achievement. By 1948, wireless telephone service was actually available in about 100 cities and along certain highway corridors, but it was expensive and the system couldn’t handle many simultaneous calls. In the years after the turn of this century, of course, mobile “phones” became more than phones.
