2000s
A car is just another room
Honda and Saturn brought the family room DVD player to the car — ushering in a new era of entertaining child passengers so parents could focus on driving. In-car movies were a far cry from the first drive-in theatres, which opened in 1933 in Camden, New Jersey.
By 2005, auxiliary jacks started to become available in cars — to connect to MP3 players’ headphones jack. Your playlists (like your mix tapes from the 70s) were suddenly at your fingertips, no matter where you were.
And by 2010, head units in cars were capable of playing music from the cloud, while others connected to Internet services like Pandora.
